A portion of my family came to the US in the early 20th century from what is now Belarus. One of the traditions they brought with them that we still celebrate today is our Easter Egg Cracking Contest! To prepare for the contest, we cook and dye hard-boiled eggs. Then, after our Easter meal, we bring out the multi-colored eggs and the fun begins! Each person gets to choose 2-3 eggs that they like. Then, one person starts the contest by hitting their egg against their neighbor’s egg. One egg will crack while the other will stay intact. The goal is to make it around the whole table. Whoever wins gets bragging rights in our family for the next year! It is a fun tradition that makes me remember my grandparents and great aunt & uncle and the fun we had celebrating this holiday.
